NBPT(N-Butylthiophosphoric Triamide)

NBPT(N-Butylthiophosphoric Triamide)

With its excellent performance, urease inhibitor NBPT can effectively inhibit the activity of urease in soil, thereby slowing down the process of hydrolysis of urea into ammonia and significantly reducing the volatilization loss of ammonia. This feature not only improves the utilization rate of nitrogen fertilizer and extends the duration of fertilizer effect, but also significantly reduces the possible poisoning of crop seeds and seedlings by high concentrations of ammonia.
Among many similar urease inhibitors, NBPT's performance is particularly outstanding. Its unique chemical properties ensure that it will not have any adverse effects on the next crop. In addition, the final decomposition products of NBPT in soil are mainly ammonium, sulfate, phosphate, etc. These substances have no negative effects on soil, microorganisms, humans, animals, and water bodies, fully ensuring the safety of the ecological environment.

2. Mechanism of action:

Blocking the active site: NBPT can block the active site of soil urease for hydrolysis of urea, thereby reducing the activity of urease and slowing down the hydrolysis rate of urea.
Change redox conditions: NBPT, as a reducing agent, can change the redox conditions of the microecological environment in the soil, thereby reducing the activity of soil urea.
Synchronous movement protection: NBPT moves synchronously with urea molecules in the soil, protecting the urea molecules from catalytic decomposition by urease.

3. Production features:

Improve nitrogen utilization efficiency:
By inhibiting the activity of urease in the soil, NBPT can slow down the rate of decomposition of urea into ammonia, thereby reducing the volatilization and loss of ammonia. According to research, the use of NBPT can increase the effective utilization rate of nitrogen fertilizer by 30% to 40%.
This means that farmers can significantly improve fertilizer utilization and reduce fertilizer waste by adding NBPT when applying fertilizers containing amide nitrogen (urea).
Extend the fertilizer period:
Since NBPT can slow down the hydrolysis rate of urea, the effectiveness period of the fertilizer can be extended. The effectiveness period of traditional urea fertilizer is about 50 days, while the effectiveness period of fertilizers added with NBPT can be increased to more than 120 days.
This extended fertilization period covers almost the entire growing period of the crop, thereby reducing farmers’ need for secondary top dressing during crop growth.
reduce environmental pollution:
By improving the utilization rate of nitrogen fertilizer and extending the fertilizer effectiveness period, NBPT can significantly reduce the loss and waste of nitrogen fertilizer, thereby reducing environmental pollution.
Reduced ammonia volatilization can not only reduce the negative impact on the environment, but also reduce the toxic effects of ammonia on crop seeds and seedlings, which is beneficial to the healthy growth of crops.
Promote crop growth:
Fertilizer added with NBPT can not only provide the nutrients needed by crops, but also promote the germination and growth of crops by reducing the toxic effect of ammonia on seeds.

4. Product process:

The production process of NBPT involves multiple steps, usually including using phosphorus trichloride and n-propylamine as raw materials, preparing intermediates in a reactor, and then going through steps such as ammonolysis reaction to obtain the final product.

5. Usage and dosage:

NBPT is added at 0.05%-0.15% of the amide nitrogen content in the fertilizer.
